MHO was founded in 2016 by Matthias Hoffmann. MHO works on competitions at various scales (urban competitions, housing, infrastructure) and realizes different projects from conversions of existing buildings to new construction. MHO is interested in collaborations and has worked with Büro Juliane Greb, SWSTUDIO, current practice, Wolfgang Zeh, STUDIO WETZEL, Atelier Fanelsa, Studio Kaspar Stöbe, Knüvener Architekturlandschaft, Veljko Markovic and the artists Johanna Reich and Jan Rothstein. In 2019, MHO co-founded the Cologne-based collaborative working group DEMO together with Tim Panzer and Wiebke Schlüter.
Matthias Hoffmann studied architecture at RWTH Aachen, at UPC Barcelona and TU Vienna. After completing his diploma in 2011, he was part of Arno Brandlhuber’s postgraduate master class 'Architecture and Urban Research’ at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nürnberg. He taught at Peter Behrens School of Arts in Düsseldorf and since 2015 has taught at the chair of Architectural Space and Design at KIT Karlsruhe with Professor Marc Frohn. From 2011 to 2016, he worked at 'BeL – Sozietät für Architektur' in Cologne.
